Pisces season arrives in mid-February, allowing us to strengthen our connection with the ethereal and engage our imagination as we consider a new vision for our future, one rooted in compassion and understanding. Pisces is a mutable water sign that teaches us the value of surrendering to divine flow. It is deeply connected to the ocean, the collective unconscious, and the completion of cycles as it is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac.

This sign is linked to the archetypes of the dreamer, the mystic, the poet, and the artist. Ruled by both Jupiter and Neptune, Pisces has a knack for sensing the unseen threads that connect us all.  Its transpersonal orientation fuels a curiosity for all aspects of the human experience.

Pisces is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions but eternally tethered to each other. This is linked to Pisces' ability to have one foot in this world, and one in another dimension. Those with strong Pisces placements in their natal astrology charts are seen as open-minded and impressionable, often having a strong spiritual connection. Keen intuition and psychic abilities come naturally to them.

Learning to embody this energy can help you to welcome change, explore your emotional nature, offer compassion, trust the outcome, and deepen your receptivity to the spiritual realm. Below are some ideas and suggestions you can incorporate into your dance and movement practices to align with this energy...

Energetic Qualities of Pisces:

  • Water - sensual shapes performed at varying speeds in the mid-lower level of the body, highlighting circular movements in the hips
  • Yin/Lunar - receives energy from outside or deep within
  • Mutable - disperses inspiration by bringing the unseen into the light

Moving with the Pisces Archetype:

The movement themes present in the story of Pisces are that of a mystical dreamer and a magical healer. This archetype will mimic the movement of the ocean - rising and falling, swaying and swirling. Try experimenting with motions that travel in an infinity pattern. Begin with your hands and then expand the size of your movement. Perhaps even incorporating different dynamics. Pisces is also linked to the feet. You could initiate your movement journey by drawing circular shapes with your toes and letting them guide you beyond the material plane.
