Scorpio season arrives in the second half of October, ushering us into this liminal space where the veil between the seen and unseen realms is at its thinnest. It is also a season of transition into the darker half of the year, where we're invited into a time of rest, reflection, and cultivating our intuitive nature.
Scorpio is a fixed water sign that draws us into our depths to experience the wisdom of the death and rebirth cycle. Co-ruled by both Pluto and Mars, this sign can help us investigate and uncover hidden meanings and motivations as well as provide the energy and determination we need to tackle our goals. The Scorpio archetype is a catalyst for transformation, supporting us as we alchemize our shadows and discover what it is we truly value.
Scorpio represents the AIR of Water. This energy can feel like a water warrior on a mission to protect and preserve what's right. When you learn to move the energy of this powerful archetype through your physical body, you attract the magick of Scorpio into your life more quickly. Below are some ideas and suggestions you can incorporate into your dance and movement practices to align with this energy...
Energetic Qualities of Scorpio:
- Water Element - graceful, fluid, intuitive, sensing, emotive, and cyclical
- Yin/Lunar Polarity - RECEPTIVE, pulling energy in from the outside world, focused on what's happening within
- Fixed Modality - SUSTAINER of movement, preserving what has already begun
- Personal Orientation - motivated by the awareness and expression of one's self
Moving with the Scorpio Archetype:
Learning to move with Scorpio energy can help us face our fears, sit with discomfort, embrace our own unique magick, and navigate our relationships with authority and sexuality. The movement themes present in the Scorpio Archetype are those of a poet-philosopher, defender of truth, a skilled investigator, and a powerful shaman.
This sign expresses the qualities of water with passion and fortitude. Try experimenting with movement that descends with determination (like a dive). Utilize powerful, repetitive, and circular shapes kept close to the body. Create motions that conceal, shed, and express some sort of transformation. I would also suggest incorporating swirling or infinity patterns, especially in the hips.
